Ensemble ACJW – Pregones Theatre – March 2, 2011
Once again a (South Bronx) venue new to me, once again the Weill Music Institute’s Neighborhood Concert series provides excellent entertainment in a groovy setting. It was a last minute decision to attend, so I was without my usual sketchbook and colors, had to make do with acceptable substitutes taken from school. ACJW is a large conglomerate of players; for each piece a temporary mini-ensemble is assembled accordingly. Of the four pieces presented here – all 20th century – there was a trio of trios and one duet. More thorough advance attention to the program would have guided my sketching choices a bit better – I never got the piano player, and had some redundancy with others. Oh well.
