Bloom, soprano saxist, is a seeker for inspiration for her new works, and she landed on Emily Dickinson once she learned that ED was a pianist and an improviser. \u00a0From there, she selected a dozen or so choice verses and used them as the basis for the works performed here, as “Wild Lines”. \u00a0Pitching in was actress Deborah Rush, who recited the poetry as intro to the pieces. \u00a0Among the expansive innovative techniques employed by Bloom were back-and-forth motion of the sax to make a mild wavering Doppler effect, and blowing directly at the strings of the open piano (sustain pedal down) to provide a batch of lingering string notes – wild stuff! \u00a0Somehow my autograph mojo was a little off, so I only got three.<\/p>\n
