Toshiko Akiyoshi   –   Church of Our Lady Restoration   –   September 26, 2010

Tucked away near the Cold Spring MetroNorth train station, with a great view of the Hudson, is the spectacular yet intimate Church of Our Lady Restoration, which has been running music series for several years now (I actually played a gig there a while back).  Capacity doesn’t seem like it would be more than about 80 seats.  Not getting there that early, we ducked upstairs to what I guess is the choir loft/organ location.  I came prepared for watercolor work, which I only do for certain locations where it seems I will have elbow room, and it worked out.  This was a solo gig by Toshiko Akiyoshi, and as masters will do, she improvised her way away from the printed program here and there, so we just follow along in awe.  Autograph is most inscrutable.
