Frank Vignola Trio – Cole Auditorium, Greenwich – January 9, 2011
Once again back to the trusty Greenwich Library’s Cole Auditorium. Vignola’s theme for the concert is the spirit of Django, though they certainly mixed in plenty of contemporary (Simon & Garfunkel, Beatles) tunes, and JS Bach, and shpritzed in various snippet riffs throughout, including “Stairway to Heaven”. Vignola is a fine showman as well, not above halting a tune to insert a comment, banter with the audience, or tell a joke. He did announce that I was sketching, and then they struck a pose for about 10 seconds before returning to the flow of music.
